The University of California, Davis seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor of musicology for a tenure-track position. An appropriate terminal degree such as Ph.D. or its equivalent is required. The Department of Music is seeking an individual possessing outstanding intellectual attainment or promise in both research and teaching, and strong leadership capabilities. We welcome applications from all geographic and theoretical or methodological specialties; those with particular interests in race and gender studies, early music, popular music, ecomusicology, and media/sound studies are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates should demonstrate their capacity to promote the success of historically underrepresented, first-generation, and/or marginalized student communities.

The appointee will be expected to teach musicological courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels (including general education courses and portions of the music history curriculum), to direct dissertations, and to accept and fulfill substantial committee and advising responsibilities. Other possibilities include participating in the Performance Studies or Cultural Studies graduate groups and potentially directing an ensemble.

Expected salary range: $91,000-$111,000, commensurate with qualifications and previous experience.
