The Department of Arts in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, invites applications for full-time Lecturer in Afro-Diasporic Music and Culture beginning fall 2023. The Department of Arts features an integrated and multidisciplinary approach to the musical arts with a focus on the use of experimental techniques and methodologies in artistic conception, creation, and performance. The department offers the B.S. degree in Music and B.S., M.F.A., and Ph.D. degrees in Electronic Arts. In addition, the department contributes to the nationally ranked B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Games and Simulation Arts & Sciences. For additional information, visit http://www.arts.rpi.edu

The successful candidate must hold a terminal degree, doctorate preferred, or foreign degree equivalent in music or a related field and have successful teaching experience at the collegiate level. A minimum of three years of professional experience with an emerging national reputation as an artist and/or scholar is preferred. We are seeking a candidate with a creative practice and/or scholarly engagement with Afro-Diasporic music cultures, which may include composition and improvisation, technology-based practices, or jazz or popular music studies. Teaching responsibilities may include history, cultural and critical studies, performance, improvisation, composition and arranging, and core courses from the curriculum.
