Job: Ruth J. Simmons Chaired Professorship, Smith College, Massachusetts
Smith College invites applications for the inaugural Ruth J. Simmons Chaired Professorship. We seek a senior scholar of U.S. and/or global blackness, approached through any disciplinary or interdisciplinary intellectual formation. The successful applicant will join an Africana Studies department with a reputation for excellence in research and teaching. Collaborations will be possible with colleagues in such areas as Sociology, Government, History, English, and Psychology, depending on the candidate’s interest. Successful candidates should be prepared to engage actively with diverse students across the liberal arts.

This is a search for a senior and tenured appointment. Teaching responsibilities will regularly include 200 and 300-level courses in the professor’s specialization, as well as contributions to the Africana Studies core curriculum. We eagerly anticipate creative curriculum development in and across the successful candidate’s fields.
