Call for articles – Finnish Yearbook of Ethnomusicology 2021
Etnomusikologian vuosikirja (‘The Yearbook of Ethnomusicology’) is a peer reviewed open access music research journal in Finland. The 33rd volume of the yearbook (2021) will be published as PDF-files on the Open Journal Systems platform (OJS) of the Finnish Society for Ethnomusicology in December 2021. Editors for the journal are PhD Kaj Ahlsved, DSSc Kaarina Kilpiö and MA Viliina Silvonen. The journal has been granted level 1 status in the Publication Forum of the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies. The articles will all be supplied by an individual DOI (Digital Object Identifier) -number.
The yearbook contains research articles. Length of the published articles are 40,000–60,000 characters (about 20–30 A4 standard paper pages). Manuscripts should follow general standards of academic research articles. Detailed guidelines can be found in the yearbook's internet site. For a smooth editing and publication process, it is important that the authors will follow the journal’s layout guidelines while writing and editing the manuscript.
With articles by non-Finnish writers, we value texts that have connections with Finnish research.
Article manuscripts should be uploaded by 10 February 2021 to the OJS platform. Please note that the submission form also requires an abstract (max 300 words) and keywords for classification purposes.
Upon receiving the manuscript, editors will decide if the text is sent for peer review, returned to the author for revision, or rejected. The yearbook publishes articles in Finnish, Swedish and English. If the author is not a native speaker of the language of the manuscript, a proofreading statement should be included upon submission.
It is possible for the authors to refer to audiovisual material in the article and the material to be added to the society’s website. This enables, for example the publication of edited field research material in conjunction with the article. The material is not to be submitted together with the article. All additional material and their formats are considered individually and are agreed upon with the editors.
The editing and publication process proceeds as follows: editor and peer-review comments are sent to authors during May. In case the review statements are in favour of publication, the author should send a final version of the manuscript to the editors for layout by the end of August. The layout of the yearbook will be compiled in November. During the layout procedures the author will receive a final version for proof reading. The yearbook is published in December.
The editors of the yearbook encourage PhD students to submit manuscripts for the journal. The yearbook has been granted the use of the label “for peer-reviewed scholarly publications” issued by the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies and is committed to complying with the terms set for the use of this label.
