CfP: Study Day – Talkin’ ‘bout A Generation: Mod Study Day (13.7.2025), Deadline: 5.3.2025

The Creative Arts team members at Liverpool Hope University are delighted to announce an interdisciplinary study day that honours the 60th anniversary of the release of the Who’s “My Generation”, the formation of the Small Faces, and many other moments that coalesced together to intensify the Mod movement. This study day will be held on July 13, 2025 at the School of Creative and Performing Arts, located in Liverpool’s vibrant city centre. Following the study day, there will be a performance of The All or Nothing Experience in our Capstone Theatre. After three sell-out tours and a successful West End run of All or Nothing – the Mod Musical, writer Carol Harrison and the show’s multi-talented cast, will perform the new, All Or Nothing Experience Concert Show, celebrating the music of the iconic mod band Small Faces.

You are cordially invited to submit abstracts for individual, 20-minute presentations or for panel presentations focusing on scholarly explorations of the musical, cultural, historical, political, and/or social contexts of the Mod movement. We welcome in particular proposals regarding: the creation, influences and legacy of the mod movement; scholarly explorations of Mod works, including but not limited to presentations concerning fandom, tourism, composition, lyrics, production, film and television, gender, and global Mod movements.
Abstracts for individual presentations should be no more than 300 words in length. Panel presentation submissions must include a panel title, along with abstract submissions from each of the panel participants. In addition to the abstract of no more than 300 words, please include 1) a list of any required equipment (e.g., piano, sound system, projector) for the presentation and 2) the presenter’s name, contact information, affiliation, and a short biography (100 words max). Please submit the proposal as a .docx or .pdf file to music[at]hope[dot]ac[dot]uk.

Abstract submissions are due 11:59pm GMT Mar. 5th, 2025

Applicants will be notified by Mar. 14th, 2025 regarding acceptance of their presentation proposal.
