18th International Conference on Music Perception and Cognition

'Echos and ecologies: New Landscapes for Music Perception and Cognition'

21-25 July 2025 | São Paulo | Hybrid

We are pleased to invite submissions for the 18th International Conference on Music Perception and Cognition jointly organized with the 17th International Conference of the Brazilian Association of Cognition and Musical Arts to be held 21-25 July 2025, in São Paulo. The conference invites papers focused on the systematic exploration of musical behavior and cognition. Under the theme "Echoes and Ecologies: New Landscapes for Music Perception and Cognition," the event seeks to examine the intricate interactions between auditory experiences and the varied environments in which they occur. It promotes interdisciplinary research, encouraging participants to investigate how progress in psychology, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and related fields is reshaping our comprehension of music perception and cognition within an evolving technological and transcultural context. While this theme serves as a guiding concept, submissions are not required to adhere strictly to it. Researchers in all areas of music cognition are encouraged to pursue their interests within this broad and dynamic field.

The ICMPC 18 will be held in a hybrid format (participation will be possible either in-person or through virtual attendance), with most activities live-streamed and accessible remotely. Presentations will be recorded and available to attendees for a limited time after the event.

Spoken Presentations

Authors may submit proposals for spoken presentations. Proposals in this category should present completed research with clear results and conclusions.

Poster Presentations

Authors can also submit proposals for poster presentations, which will include designated discussion periods.

Symposia

Symposia will consist of multiple spoken papers on a specific topic, organized by a convener. Symposia typically last 90 minutes and include 3-4 presentations with a shared discussion.

Workshops and Demonstrations

Workshops and demonstrations offer opportunities for hands-on engagement, showcasing new methods, technologies, or prototypes. Sessions may last 60-90 minutes and should include practical demonstrations and interactive discussions. Only proposals for onsite workshops and demonstrations will be considered.

All presentations and publications will be in English. We encourage participation in person, but limited remote presentation slots are available for Symposia, Posters and Spoken Presentations.
