Call for Papers
The 2025 theme of the annual ICTMD Ireland Conference is Traditions and Practices of Music and Dance: Ireland and Beyond. While prospective participants are encouraged to submit proposals that resonate with this theme, proposals based on new research that does not directly engage with the conference theme will also be considered. Proposals may be submitted in English or Irish (Gaeilge), with proposals for bilingual presentations incorporating both languages also welcome. This conference, which marks the twentieth anniversary of ICTMD Ireland, celebrates the diversity of traditions and practices of music and dance in Ireland and around the globe. We look forward to welcoming participants engaged in research across all musical genres in the f ields of ethnomusicology, ethnochoreology, musicology, popular music studies and complementary disciplines.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: 31 December 2024.
Successful applicants will be notified by 21 January.

Proposals are invited for:

  • Papers (20 minutes with 10 minutes for questions)

  • Panels (3 or 4 linked papers around a theme, totalling 1.5 or 2 hours)

  • Roundtables (3 or 4 shorter presentations, around 15 minutes each, followed by a chaired discussion, totalling 1.5 or 2 hours)

  • Performance-based presentations or workshops (with durations as above)

  • Posters

  • Films or other media presentations (again, with durations as above)

  • Collaborative presentations that include an ethnomusicologist and one or more practitioners, performers or other research participants. Collaborative research participants do not need to be members of ICTMD Ireland. Please contact conference chair John O’Flynn at john[dot]oflynn[at|dcu[dot]ie to discuss possible options.

Abstracts for individual papers should be no more than 300 words. For panels and roundtables, please send paper abstracts of no more than 300 words each, together with a panel/roundtable description of no more than 100 words. To submit a proposal, please send an email attachment (.doc or .docx, not .pdf) to ICTMDIreland2025[at]dcu[dot]ie by 6pm, Tuesday 31 December 2024 with the following details:

  • Title of paper

  • Abstract (max 300 words)

  • Full name and institutional a\iliation

  • Short biography (max 100 words)

  • Please state whether you are proposing

    • Individual paper

    • Panel o Roundtable

    • Poster

    • Performance-based presentation or workshop

    • Film or other media presentation o Collaborative presentation

Please submit all information in a single Word document. Proposals will be anonymised prior to peer review, and applicants will be notified of the review process outcome by Tuesday 21 January 2025.
