An exciting opportunity exists for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Popular Music, specialising in Performance and/or Songwriting, to join our Music and Music Tech-nology (MMT) team.

We are a vibrant and supportive team that was ranked joint 5th for Music in REF2021 (GPA) and receiving 4* for Environment. MMT was ranked 27th in the 2023 QS World University Subject Rankings for Performing Arts. You will join the Popular Music Studies Research Group (PMSRG) and Centre for Research in Music and its Technologies (CRMT). The PMSRG is a hub for practice-based, practice-led and text-based research around popular music.

You will join us to deliver teaching, learning and research within the Department of Music and Design Arts, contributing to the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate courses including Music, Popular Music, Music Performance and Creative Music Production, and carrying out a range of administrative tasks. As well as primary expertise in songwriting and/or performance, we would welcome supplementary experience in for example creative music production, global mu-sics/ethnomusicology, music business/enterprise, music theatre, or live sound.

With a Master’s degree in Music or a related discipline, you will be required to register for doctoral study within 12 of the appointment and have in-depth knowledge and experience of teaching popular music performance and/or songwriting across a range of genres.

Research support available for staff includes: a day per week free of teaching for research activities; an individual research expenses budget; and a programme of one semester research sabbaticals.
