Announcement of a new publication on Afghan music (open access):

From Tradition To Television - Diverse Perspectives on Afghan Music, ed. by Peter Lell, Sounding Heritage 6, University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar 2021. 

It was finalized some months ago already, just before the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan. In the wake of the events in Afghanistan and ambiguity of the situation we decided not to spread its release back then. It is a collection of essays written at the UNESCO Chair on Transcultural Music Studies at the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar, Germany. It is covering topics including traditional music, music censorship up to the popular TV show „Afghan Star“ and the Afghan-German hiphop producer “Farhot”. Retrospectively, with the recent devastating changes in the country just some weeks after it was finalized, the topics seem of unfortunate topicality.
