PGR Symposium for Creative Practices Research: Arts and Communities

This symposium explores the multi-faceted relationships between arts and communities. It is organised by the Creative Practice Research Academy (CPRA), which itself is home to a diverse community of scholars who undertake creative practice research, including theoretical, historical and contextual study of creative practices in fine arts, music, dance, screen media, performance, design and creative writing 

It is addressed to postgraduate and recently awarded doctoral research students. Its aim is to foster scholarly connections between postgraduate researchers working both in practice-based research and in theoretical and historical studies of creative practices.  

Possible topics include but are not limited to: 

  • Public and community arts

  • Real and virtual art communities

  • Arts and political engagement  

  • Creative arts, health and wellbeing  

  • Paid and unpaid work in the arts  

  • The role of art in marginalised communities  

  • The effect of Covid on community arts  

Keynote Speaker: Erik Knudsen Professor of Media Practice, University of Central Lancashire  

The organisers invite abstracts for papers no longer than 15-20 minutes, and each panel will be followed by a discussion. We also welcome proposals for presentations in other formats, such as performances or screenings. Attendance at the event will be free of charge.
