Missions

The postdoc will participate in a collective program on the making of musical acoustics and music research in France after the Second World War. This project takes place in the context of an unprecedented boom in work at the crossroads of musicology, history and sociology of science and sound studies. He or she will take part in the research already initiated by the project leaders around the Laboratoire d'Acoustique Musicale (LAM) and the Institut de Recherche et de Coordination Acoustique / Musique (IRCAM) and will also focus on a field of study of his or her choice

Activities

- Interviews with key players in this history.
- Collect and analysis of archival sources.
- Transcription and editing of interviews.
- Participation in the publication of scientific articles, essays and multimedia articles.
- Participation in the organisation of a conference

Skills

The candidate must have defended a dissertation in the history of science, media and technology with an emphasis on music and sound, or in musicology with a component in sound science and technology. She / He must have defended her / his dissertation at the latest two years before the start of the contract. Research experience in the field of archives and from interviews will be privileged. The candidate will also ideally have skills in the field of digital humanities. She / he must have a perfect command of the French language and have a good level of English.

Work Context

The candidate will be based at IRCAM (Paris), within the “Analyse des Practiques Musicales" team, part of the lab Science and Technology of Music and Sound (UMR 9912 – STMS, Ircam, CNRS, Sorbonne Université, French Ministry of Culture.
