Job: Freelance Researcher

Deadline: 18.11.2021
BACKGROUND
‘Defining Resilient Urban Music Ecosystems in the Nordics and Abroad’ is a joint project proposal between the Center, Globus/Nordic Culture Fund and Erasmus University, School of History, Culture and Communication, Rotterdam and its PhD project, How Can Ecosystem Thinking Contribute to a Resilient Music Sector in Three Contexts: Rural, Northern & Diverse Music Communities, working with partners in Torshavn (Faroe Islands); Anchorage (Alaska) and Nuuk (Greenland).
This position will be of interest to an early-career researcher working in social or community studies, urban anthropology, economic geography, etc. who has completed at least one degree at a recognized university.
Applicants should be UK/EU-based, and those based in Nordic countries are particularly encouraged to apply.
INTRODUCING THE CENTER FOR MUSIC ECOSYSTEMS
The Center for Music Ecosystems is a global nonprofit focused on advancing the understanding and development of music ecosystems to foster more sustainable communities. Its objective is to provide a robust, peer-reviewed evidence base to help define a music ecosystem and how it operates in cities and places, to create a framework for music to be integrated into all aspects of city planning, built environment policy and urban sustainability.
PROJECT - MUSIC ECOSYSTEMS, RESILIENCE AND CREATING A BEST PRACTICE FRAMEWORK FOR NORDIC TOWNS AND CITIES
In partnership with Globus & Erasmus University, the Center for Music Ecosystems will develop a comprehensive best practice policy toolkit for three selected Nordic cities, towns and communities to understand the role and impact of how music ecosystem policy can be deployed in mid-sized, small and geographically isolated communities and how it links to overall resilience methodologies. The research will focus on the definition of resiliency, in which music ecosystems have the capacity to absorb a variety of shocks and disturbances, both of internal and external origin. These shocks and disturbances can cause changes within some of the characteristics of the system, but the system itself will maintain its function and role.
