Online seminar “Popular Music Heritage and Place”

The Department of Cultural Heritage Studies at the University of Turku is hosting an online seminar on Popular Music Heritage and Place Thursday, 25 November, 12:30–14:00 pm. Four seminar talks (see programme below) present case-studies from five European cities and discuss the various connections of popular music heritage to place, including music scenes, uses of history, and local heritage-management. 20-minute talks are followed by 10-minute Q&A.

Giacomo Bottà (PhD, Comparative Studies, IULM University Milano, Adjunct professor (Title of Docent), University of Helsinki and University of Tampere): Authenticity in real-life and virtual implementations of The Sound of Düsseldorf City Walk

Pertti Grönholm (DPhil, University Teacher, Cultural History and European and World History, Adjunct Professor (Title of Docent), University of Turku): Controlling history and images: Kraftwerk and the pop heritage of Düsseldorf

Tommi Iivonen (Doctoral Student, Cultural Production and Landscape Studies, University of Turku): From mainstream to underground: The musical and cultural change from the eighties Pori rock to nineties Pori rock

The talk is part of a two-day hybrid seminar, which will take place at the University Consortium of Pori, 24–25 November 2021 (other sessions in Finnish).
