Jobs: PhD scholarships at the Faculty of Humanities, Copenhagen
The PhD school is inviting applications for PhD scholarships at each of the departments mentioned below:
Department of Arts and Cultural Studies (2 PhD scholarships)
Department of Communication (3 PhD scholarships)
Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies (2 PhD scholarships)
Department of English, German and Romance Studies (2 PhD scholarships)
Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics (2 PhD scholarships)
SAXO Institute (2 PhD scholarships)
The proposed PhD projects must relate to or enhance a research field at one of these departments. To read more about each department’s research areas, please click on the relevant links above.
Please note that applications that do not meet the formal requirements (for more information, see ‘Admission requirements’ and ‘Application requirements’ below) will not be considered.
Applicants may amend their applications at any point up until the deadline.
The scholarships are fully funded for three years and will begin on 1 September 2021.
Admission requirements
Applicants must hold a two-year Master’s degree (120 ECTS) or equivalent.
Applicants must have already submitted their thesis and at least attach pre-approval of it with their application.
For applicants with a non-Danish Master’s degree, the Ministry of Higher Education and Science will assess their qualification in order to establish whether it is equivalent to a Danish Master’s degree. Qualification requirements
Qualifications are evaluated on the basis of their general educational and academic background, taking into account grade average, thesis grade, language proficiency, publications and other academic activities.
The proposed PhD project and study plan will also be evaluated with regard to originality, choice of theory and method, academic relevance and prospects for completion within the required timeframe of 36 months.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to reflect on how their project relates to current research activities at the department.
Communication skills
Excellent communication skills in English are essential, and applicants must speak and write academic English. The administration may ask applicants to document their proficiency in English at any time during the recruitment process.

Diploma and transcript of records
Applicants must upload the following:
A copy of their Master’s degree diploma (if this not available before the application deadline, pre-approval must be submitted)
A copy of their Master’s degree transcript (including an official description of the grading scale)
A copy of their Bachelor’s degree diploma
A copy of their Bachelor’s degree transcript (including an official description of the grading scale).
If the Master’s diploma and/or transcripts are in a language other than English, German, French, Spanish, Danish, Norwegian or Swedish, the application must also include a translation into one of these languages.
The diplomas/certificates and transcripts must be translated by, or the translation of them approved by, the Danishembassy or consulate in the country where the original document was issued.
