III UskoMus Symposium:
“Music and Multiculturalism”
7 December 2015 – Helsinki
Deadline: 31 August 2015
Keynote: Thomas Solomon
The UskoMus Research Network (www.jazzpoparkisto.net/mmf/uskomus.php) is happy to announce that the next network symposium will be held on the Finnish Music Week, on 7 December 2015 in Helsinki at the premises of the Library of the Labour Movement.
The theme of the symposium is “Music and Multiculturalism”, and the keynote speaker of the event will be professor Thomas Solomon (Grieg Academy, Bergen, Norway). In the symposium, multiculturalism is approached both as a social policy with its underlying ideologies and a belief system in its own right. Music, for its part, is subject to similar scrutiny.
Those willing to challenge the belief systems surrounding the amalgamation of music and multiculturalism, are hereby invited to express their interest by sending an abstract of no more than two hundred (200) words to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than 31 August 2015. Preferred modes of submission are text within email or doc/pdf/rtf formats. Also other forms of presentations than spoken papers will be taken into consideration. Notifications of acceptance will be announced by 14 September 2015.
There will be no participation fee in the symposium, but no free lunches either.
The symposium is organised in collaboration between the UskoMus Research Network and the research project “Music, Multiculturality and Finland” funded by the Academy of Finland, and with the support of the Oskar Öflund Foundation.
