We are looking for a specialist in popular-music composition and performance to join a thriving team teaching Music at Huddersfield. The Department is housed in the purpose-built Creative Arts Building, which provides state of the art facilities. The University is also home to the Centre for Research in New Music (CeReNeM), the Popular Music Studies Research Group, and the renowned Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. Popular Music at Huddersfield is defined broadly, encompassing Western and non-Western practices, traditions and genres, and including jazz and folk musics.

A degree along with a PhD (or nearing completion) in a relevant area are essential requirements of this post. You should have experience of group teaching in Higher Education as well as significant experience as a performer and composer within popular music. Expertise in any of the following would be an advantage: computer composition, scoring and arranging, conducting, ensemble direction.

You will contribute with imagination and innovation to the Department’s wide-ranging curriculum. You would help to shape and deliver activities related to popular music, which is part of several courses within Music and Music Technology, especially the BMus Popular Music. You will also be expected to contribute at an international level (or show potential to do so) to the maintenance and development of the Department’s high standing in research (in the REF2014, 85% of music research at Huddersfield was judged to be Internationally Excellent, with 44% of the overall submission ranked as “World-Leading”).
