“Music, Narrative and the Moving Image”
August 12-15, 2015 – Fordham University, Lincoln Center Campus, New York NY
Deadline: February 5, 2015
This conference seeks to bring together the classic literary interest in narrative, the rise of narrative as a principal category for understanding music, and the saturation of culture and society by moving images across a variety of media, which has transformed the concept and character of narrative in ways still being investigated. Papers may address any aspect of the intersection of the title’s three terms: oral or written narrative in any genre or medium; music and musical narrative of any kind, with or without text, including music composed for film and television; and moving images of any sort, from those shown in kinetoscopes to those filling the screens of tablets and smart phones.
Abstracts of no more than 300 words for 30-minute papers should be sent to Walter Bernhart (walter.bernhart at uni-graz.at) by February 5, 2015. Abstracts should identity their author and the author’s present location and academic affiliation, if any.
