The Forschungsinstitut für Musiktheater der Universität Bayreuth (Research Institute for Music Theater Studies at the University of Bayreuth), fimt, invites applications for a postdoctoral research position. The position is full-time, starting on April 1, 2015. The position will be at TV-L E 13 level (in accordance with the German public sector pay scale) and is initially limited to three years. It is a position as temporary “Akademischer Rat (verbeamtet)” with a possible extension of three years, subject to the candidate meeting civil service requirements.

The successful candidate is expected to teach 5 hours per week optionally within the following programs: B.A. Theater und Medien, B.A. Musiktheaterwissenschaft and M.A. Musik und Performance courses. She/He will have obtained her/his doctoral degree in musicology, theater studies, or other relevant subjects.

The applicant is expected to acquire a postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation), which will focus upon the newly to be established research area in Music/Music Theatre and Africa. The scope of music theatre research in Bayreuth will be extended with regard to interculturality and non-European, particularly African, cultures. The position will facilitate a new field of research within music and African studies in terms of performative practices and forms. Stimuli are expected for the Emerging Field “Kulturbegegnungen und interkulturelle Prozesse” (Cultural encounters and intercultural processes) of the faculties IV and V. The applicant is expected to speak German at a decent level and improve with his his/her job at Bayreuth University.
