Florida International University, Miami’s public research university, seeks applicants for the position of Director of the School of Music with a proven ability to lead a music program within a research institution and be responsible for directing the School in all aspects of teaching, research, development, service, and shared artistic vision.

Specific responsibilities include:

providing strategic initiatives to increase the quality, reputation, and diversity of undergraduate and graduate programs; enrollment management; administering the School’s 3.5 million dollar budget, program policies, and goals; teaching in the area of expertise as appropriate; managing, recruiting, retaining, and supporting faculty members and staff; representing and advocating for the FIU School of Music within the College of Architecture + The Arts (CARTA), the university, and the community at large; directing the school’s public relations, development, and alumni relations.

Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a successful record of higher education administration in music as well as leadership experience in faculty recruitment, program development, budget, development, and alumni relations. Candidates should demonstrate professional accomplishments as a performer, scholar, music educator and must have academic credentials from an accredited institution of higher education, with qualifications appropriate for appointment at the rank of full or associate professor, including a record of teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
