Rutgers University Graduate Musicology Society:
“Performance Space, Performance Place”
March 8, 2015 – Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ
Deadline: December 8, 2014
The Rutgers University Graduate Musicology Society invites paper proposals for a graduate student conference that addresses the role of space and place in musical performance. Space and place can be interpreted broadly to mean performance venues (concert halls, outdoor arenas, or virtual space), landscapes (urban, suburban, or rural), or geographic locations (nations, regions, or cities). Paper topics might include, but are certainly not limited to, studies of music and geography, politics of space, perceptions of space, perimeters and migration, acoustics and architecture, environment and landscape, gendered and queer space, or time and space.
The conference committee encourages submissions from graduate students (or advanced undergraduates) in musicology, theory, ethnomusicology, performance, and composition. Paper presentations will be 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of questions. In addition, 30-minute lecture recitals are encouraged and welcome.
Paper proposals should include an abstract of no more than 300 words, your name, email address, institutional affiliation, and student status. Completed proposals should be emailed to ru.musicologicalsociety at rutgers.edu no later than December 8, 2014. Successful applicants will be notified by January 8, 2015.
For further information, please contact committee chair Marco Accattatis by emailing rums.president at rutgers.edu.
