The Department of Music at the University of California, Santa Barbara seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor of musicology with demonstrated potential for growth and distinction in university research and teaching. Area of research specialization is open, and we are particularly interested in candidates with more than one area of research and teaching expertise. The department includes strengths in performance, composition, musicology, theory, and ethnomusicology and offers BA, BM, MM, MA, Ph.D. and DMA degrees. For more information, see www.music.ucsb.edu. UCSB is known for its interdisciplinary landscape, and our department houses the Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Music. We therefore encourage applicants whose scholarship crosses disciplinary boundaries, with possible specializations including (but not limited to) jazz, musical theater, film music, popular culture, and other innovative areas.
Duties include research, publication, teaching undergraduate, non-major, and graduate courses in music history, graduate advising, and participating in departmental governance The Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.
Ph.D. is expected by time of appointment. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Starting date July 1, 2015. Review of applications will begin October 1, 2014; strongest consideration will be given to applications received by that date.
