8th Verge Conference 2014:
“Arts + Re/search”
September 25-26, 2014 – Trinity Western University, Langley, BC, Canada
Deadline: June 30, 2014
“Human production encounters an enormous variety of ways of trying things out, rejecting them, succeeding, or failing. Art begins precisely there, where we are able to do otherwise.”
(Hans-Georg Gadamer, The Relevance of the Beautiful and Other Essays, Cambridge University Press, 1986).
This conference seeks to explore how material, experiential, transitory, and performative practices constitute research, and the implications of the question for the artist, the academy, and the wider communities in which artists work. We invite presentations on such topics as… the kinds of inquiry taking place in the arts; arts re/search + the re/searcher; re/searching community through the arts; and other topics related to the theme.
Keynote speakers are William Catling, Azusa Pacific University, and Lynn Fels, Simon Fraser University.
This conference welcomes submissions from any discipline that explore the topic under consideration. Presentations whose topics intersect with our online journal (www.vergearts.com) will be considered for publication in an edition themed on the conference topic. Proposal deadline is June 30, 2014.
