Start: Autumn 2014
Are you interested in a university degree in Popular Culture Studies?
The University of Turku in Finland is offering a brand new Master’s degree pathway in popular culture, allowing students to pursue degrees in cultural history, media studies or musicology in the framework of popular culture research. The two-year pathway launches in the Autumn of 2014 and comprises a combination of joint studies within the pathway and optional courses within the participating departments.
With subjects ranging from, for example, urban culture to animated film and fashion studies to hip hop music and culture and film musicals, the theories covered in the pathway help students understand the meanings, contexts and social implications of popular culture and the teaching provides a thorough knowledge of the history, concepts and analysis of popular genres.
The pathway welcomes both international students and Finnish students interested in internationalization. The courses are mainly taught in English, but students with knowledge of Finnish and Swedish may partake in courses offered in these languages.
Basic requirements for applicants are a bachelor’s level degree in one of the three disciplines or some closely related Humanities or Social Sciences degree and evidence of proficiency in English.
